Election Rant
This being my first blog post and a very politically motivated post at that, I decided it might be a good idea to give you some idea of where I stand politically. I will not be overly detailed in this regard because you will get a better idea of my position if you continue to read my future posts. Primarily what I would like to do is illustrate how I view Democrats and Republicans before I jump in to the ensuing rant. I do not ascribe to the theory that Democrats are left wing nor do I buy the modern conception of the right wing. First, I think that Democrats as we see them are not particularly left wing; we are made to think that their economic policies are far leftist by a conniving Republican campaign, but they are not, and they only appear to be interested in social equality and freedom when compared to a Republican stance. Second, we are told that to be right wing means fiscal conservatism, responsible spending, a belief in state’s rights, a small federal government, and an adherence to the constitution; in fact being right wing has little or nothing to do with any of that, and while Republicans are very right wing, they follow none of these principles, and in some cases mock them. I will address much of these ideas in future blog posts, but now it’s time to rant.
I am unbelievably frustrated with the American political climate. For the better part of 8 years the United States was being driven into the ground by a destructive administration. The American people, while slow to realize, eventually came to the conclusion that change was necessary. In electing a new administration they hoped to achieve this change. The new administration, being run by Democrats, made only vague progress in two years. The impatient American public did not see their outlandish dreams come true in a mere two years and decided that because the progress was only vague that they would be better off seeking out that same destructive party that just two years ago nearly drained us dry. Imagine the US as a giant water jug that is being filled up with water. At some point in US history electing Republicans became equivalent to poking a hole in the jug and electing Democrats became equivalent to plugging that hole with a sponge. That is to say all the Democrats seem to do is slow the drain, not plug the leak. So after years of water pouring out of the jug the American public realized they needed that sponge and voted accordingly, first for congressional seats and then for President. After 4 years with a majority in congress and two with a Democrat as President the American people came to the conclusion that they were not at ease with dripping sponge, so, in a move lacking all logic the American people decided that in order to stop the drip they would simply remove the sponge and make a new hole. The general Republican campaign functions on the idea that we, the American public, are idiots, and I cannot help but think they are correct.
